Weekend Posting

Saturday, January 10th, 2009

The snows have returned – in force. Makes for a cozy weekend of sports-watching (the victorious MSU basketball team) and DVD watching (more Bones and Battlestar Galactica). After a whirlwind housecleaning, that is. After all, we must try to be *somewhat* productive, mustn’t we?

In more exciting news, Cherie Priest’s Those Who Went Remain There Still arrived today. Subterranean Press‘s Limited Edition with chapbook, of course. After recently finishing her other recent release, Fathom, I’m very much looking forward to more of Ms. Priest’s writing.

Oh, we also watched Bangkok Dangerous with some friends. It was worse than I expected. We made it through the whole thing, so I suppose I’ll give it 2 stars.

Goings On

After a nail-biting, coronary-inducing victory for my Spartans, I was planning on a relaxing lazy Saturday. And it’s mostly been that. Got some laundry done, watched some random bits of other football games, that kind of thing.

Everyone loves an underdog, so I’ve enjoyed some of the upsets already today, and close games are fun as well, so Pittsburgh’s 4-OT victory over Notre Dame (*not* a favorite of mine – not only as an MSU fan, but as the offspring of two Sooners) as well as Northwestern’s last-minute interception – among others – made for great highlight viewing. At this very moment, I’m thoroughly enjoying, nay, savoring Texas Tech’s impressive 22-6 halftime lead over the Texas Longhorns (remember… I’m a Sooner baby!)

Texas Tech has been a fun team to watch under their current coach (averaging 8 wins a season? Can’t argue much with that) and is even more so this season with their feel-good story-of-the-year: Matt Williams. Quite literally plucked from the stands (Tech’s coach sent someone after him as he returned to his seat after kicking a 30-yard field goal in a contest to win free rent during a Texas Tech football game,) Williams has 100% of his PATs (11 or 12 now, I’ve lost count) and hit his first two field goal attempts of his college career. Very Cool.

The other event of the evening was our culinary adventure: Popeye’s Chicken. We somehow never managed to try it during our summer trip to the South, and found out there’s a restaurant here in Lansing. The verdict: it garnered Chi-Chi’s whole-hearted endorsement. And it tasted pretty good, too.
